Here is Rose Wilcher discussing how local producers of Akron, Ohio are no able to pay for the flat fee imposed upon them; no discussion was permitted by city council. This imposed fee has swept most local producers off the air! for Rose's legal defense fund go to: www.HowToFightCityHall.com or her own page: http://freedomjournaltv.tripod.com . Well versed in local rules and laws regarding Akron's Public Access TV, Rose will be happy to tell your activist groups why it is of paramount importance that we support her to better keep accessible media open for the public so they can speak out to criticize local government without sustaining a backlashed fee they cannot afford.
WE MUST BE FREE TO SAY WHAT WE WANT ABOUT GOVERNMENT!
The FCC has blocks of time available at all major TV stations for "public use". Check it out. You might have to wait your turn in line, but it's there for you to use. and it's all mandated by FCC law. Check it out. It's public access TV by all the major stations and especially the nonprofit stations.
and is the public access TV they now charge a flat fee, with no public discussion at city council, producers given less than one month's notice by letter. Each time a producer brings a VHS tape to "play" their show, they MUST PAY $25. This is too expensive and has rid the Akron and surrounding area of 99% of all their local producers, getting rid of public access, having sold already the production equipment producers were to be provided with, no studio provided, and only 1 channel for the population's educational, gov't and public access programming which should have been seperate and offer more channels!! Many things wrong here... now what?
